Taking Relief From A Cart Path:

  • Indicate to your fellow competitors that you intend to take relief
  • Mark the ball (if the ball is not marked, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke and the ball must be replaced)
  • The ball may be cleaned
  • Using a club (typically the driver) and taking a stance, determine the nearest point of complete relief that is not nearer the hole
  • Mark the point on the ground where the club head is resting, using a tee or small coin
  • Using the same club indicate one club length from the point just marked, again not nearer the hole, and mark that new spot
  • Stand erect, hold the ball at shoulder height, at arms’ length, and drop it within the last two marked spots
  • If the ball does not roll closer to the hole than the line between the two spots, or no more than two club lengths behind the line, the ball is now in play
  • If the dropped ball strikes the player, his partner, either of their caddies or their equipment before coming to rest, the ball must be re-dropped, without penalty
  • Play away, being sure to pick up your markers.
